It's the Launch of A-1's 2020 Season!

A-1 is pleased to begin our 14th year of concrete leveling with the 2020 season this week. Our project managers are busy estimating projects and our crew schedules are filling up to complete approved projects. As the majority of our projects are in exterior areas we are happy to complete our electronic estimates, which include pictures of the project area(s), via email delivery to minimize contact if that is more comfortable for you. If desired, our estimators can call you directly to discuss the scope of the project while they are onsite viewing the affected area(s) to eliminate the need for contact. Additionally, as long as there is access to a working water spigot and an electrical outlet on the exterior work area, our crews are able to complete your project even if you not able to be onsite or if you are practicing social distancing. In line with other responsible companies, and as a commitment to our employee and customer health, we have increased our employees awareness of sanitary safety practices and ensured abundant access to hand sanitizer. Regardless of the scope of your project A-1 Concrete Leveling can pump it up!

Earthquake Causes Ground to Shift Today

At A-1 Concrete Leveling we know that the ground is always shifting. Sometimes it's subsidence due to surface level drainage issues caused by improperly installed gutters or concrete which has sunken and is pitched incorrectly, and other times it is compaction due to the brutal freeze-thaw cycles in Winter.

What people frequently fail to consider is that the earth below your feet is constantly moving due to tectonic shift which is the movement of the plates that make up Earth's crust. The heat from radioactive processes within the planet's interior causes the plates to move, sometimes toward and sometimes away from each other.

This shift happened today when a 3.3 magnitude quake occurred 10.7 kilometers below the area northwest of Plattsburgh, NY, on the border between the US and Canada. The orange circle in the picture below shows the location of today's quake while the two yellow circles, one North and one South of today's quake location indicate smaller quakes that occurred on January 11, 2020, and January 7, 2020, respectively.
Here's the local story: WIVB News About Today's Earthquake

See more in-depth details of the quake on the United States Geological Survey website.

Think it can't happen in Buffalo? Check out this Buffalo Spree archive article from 2008, "Cool Stuff: Tracking the Big Ones" to read more about the history of earthquakes in Buffalo which includes information about a significant fault line, known as the Clarendon-Linden Fault System, which runs from Lake Ontario south to Rushford Lake.

If your concrete is sinking, whether from subsidence, compaction, or tectonic plate shifting, A-1 Concrete Leveling can help return your sunken concrete slabs to their original position. Call 716-341-4550 to find out how A-1 can help extend the life of your concrete!
